The Strategic Significance of the Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor

This presentation will dwell little on the attack itself; rather, why?  Where does the attack figure in the general trend of the war.  What was the impact of the Day of Infamy.  Most important, will explain why December 1941 was the turning point of the war, and this is most important.  Because two aspects happen here:  December 7, the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, bringing the United States into the war officially.  But two days earlier, the Soviet Army stopped Hitler at Moscow.  Now the globe’s two largest industrial powers are now allies.  This is decisive, for the United States and the Soviet Union win this global conflict.  And this will lead to, the Cold War.

Stay, Daughter

When Muslim families break with convention and send their daughters to school– run by Christian missionaries no less–the freedom and exposure to foreign ideas brings anguish as females break away from traditional norms. With love, humor and empathy, this memoir tells the story of a young girl who struggles to reconcile her need to belong and her yearning to be free. Although the book narrates the story of a single family, it draws on a situation almost all Muslims struggle with the challenge of balancing the rules of orthodox Islam with the freedom and innovations of the modern world.

Molly Learns to Float

Molly Learns to Float is a heartwarming tale of love, friendship and reinvention. This uplifting book examines the pain, perils and humorous moments that come with online dating after decades of marriage to one man.

Loosely based on the author’s own experiences after suddenly losing her husband of 35 years, Diane  said the goal of this novel is to inspire others to believe it is possible to find new love, laughter, and purpose, even after devastating tragedy. In the case of Molly, it took a little help from friends, family, an animal shelter, an online dating site, a good dose of inner strength, and an unsinkable sense of humor.
